A national media that ignored his continuous lies and complete lack of civic knowledge in the one presidential debate he joined this year.
The lucky, free, viral campaign image he scored with a bloody face and a shaking fist on an outdoor campaign stage in Pennsylvania.
The judge whom he appointed (and apparently owns) throwing out the classified documents felony case against him based on her completely novel finding that Jack Smith, the independent special counsel bringing the case, was unconstitutionally appointed.
Does it seem like everything is coming up roses for Donald Trump lately? Are you losing hope of a win in November for the Democratic candidate, and for democracy? Thinking about giving up caring?
DON’T!
Because the best way to deflate Donald Trump’s hot-air balloon and get your mojo back is to hit Trump and all Republicans hard in the one spot that will really hurt them – in the ballot box.
Donald Trump wants a fight? Isn’t that the word he mouthed on the stage in Butler, Pa.?
Then, let’s pummel him and his ilk over and over in the ballot box.
In Florida’s Aug. 20 elections, which are party primaries and non-partisan races like judicial and school board seats, vote for the most progressive candidates in the non-partisan races – a school board candidate like Francesca Wernisch in the north county's District 1, who supports public schools and opposes Moms for Liberty and Ron DeSantis’ book banning in schools. Or the judicial candidates who are the opposite of the Federalist Society members that DeSantis appoints. Republicans will feel the hurt and you’ll feel better just voting for these candidates. For more on Francesca, click here.
Next, in the runup to the Nov. 5 election, don't just watch, grow depressed and complain. Get active.
Get active knocking on doors and making phone calls for Democrats.
Get active going to rallies and fundraisers.
Get active writing letters to the editor of your local paper detailing why you oppose Trump or U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, or why we all need to vote for Thomas Witkop to replace U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, for Aaron Hawkins to replace state Sen. Gayle Harrell, and for former Palm Beach Gardens Major Rachelle Litt to beat whichever of the five no-name Republican candidates wins the GOP nomination to fill the state House seat of the term-limited Republican Rick Roth.
Get active in your local Democratic club.
Getting active in the North County Democratic Club of Palm Beach County, for instance, allows you to volunteer to do things like phone-banking, texting and post-carding voters for Democrats on Saturdays and Sundays, or greet and inform voters during early voting Aug. 10-18 at sites in Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens and Riviera Beach.
We really need volunteers to fill time slots at our Democratic information tents at the early voting sites. I'll be there every morning of the early voting period and would love to have you join us. Please click here to learn more and to sign up as a volunteer.
Finally, in the Nov. 5 election, vote and help every Democrat you know to vote. Even volunteer to help Democrats you don’t know to vote. Drive them to the polls and locations where they can drop off their vote-by-mail ballots.
When you vote, VOTE BLUE in every race. VOTE YES ON AMENDMENTS 3 and 4, because they were put on the ballot by citizens’ initiatives and because they are about returning or providing rights to the people. And VOTE NO on the other four proposed amendments, because they were all put on the ballot by Florida’s Republican-controlled Legislature.
Getting active for Democrats not only helps Democratic candidates and the Democratic cause, it helps you. The more you can concentrate on your part of the fight, the more you can get outside of your head and the less hopeless you will feel.
And the more you can do, the less helpless we will all be.
So don’t let all this dumb Trump luck get you down. Instead, use it as motivation to get active for democracy.

😍 Thanks for your uplifting column, Paul! You hit a nerve with me and I am sure with so many of our fellow Democrats. The two areas that are most worrisome for me are: Democrat infighting and billionaires pouring millions into Trump's campaign. Also, I have to add the media's lack of understanding that they are dealing with two totally different individuals because they continue to treat Trump as "normal," while picking on President Biden's minutest mistakes to criticize him! No wonder we are depressed lately, it seems we need a major miracle to recognize that we are the good guys in this campaign! Thanks!
