Tonight's the night!
This year's celebration of Black History Month is particularly significant because it marks its 100th year. The founder, Carter G Woodson, earned his PhD from Harvard University, and chose the second week of February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
As it aligns with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, organizers highlight the need for our nation to honor an accurate narrative that includes the contributions of Black Americans.
Tonight, February 12, at 6:30pm at the Gardens Library, Author Dr. Lamell McMorris and Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Randall Woodfin will share their insights about this unparalleled time in America. Attend via Zoom by clicking this link.
As we elect new leadership at the municipal level on March 10, our speakers will also touch on how important our vote is to shape our communities. Please register for one or more events:
2/12/26 at 6:30 Gardens Library - Our live guests will include award winning youth orators, Jaxon Barnes and Julia Vital. David Rae, PBC Community Organizer will also speak, followed by a fireside chat with Dr Lamell McMorris and Mayor Randall Woodfin.
2/15/26 and 3/8 from 2-4pm Phone bank with Friends at the First Unitarian to inform voters about the elections.
3/12/26 Monthly Meeting at First Unitarian - the library is not available that night, due to the election - We will have dinner and phone bank for the FL House 87 Race to elect Emily Gregory
3/14/26 from 8-10 Jupiter Beach Cleanup

Call Your Florida Lawmakers to Oppose Redistricting. The districts were drawn a few years ago. Floridians need our legislators to focus on hurricane preparedness, protecting the environment, and improving the affordability and quality of healthcare, housing, schools, and insurance. That's why NCDC is committed to voter education and voter registration.
